Sampling investigation on rural latrine renovation in endemic regions of schistosomiasis, Anqing city, Anhui Province

Abstract:

Objective  To understand the state of rural latrine renovation in endemic regions of schistosomiasis in Anqing city, and provide basis for promoting the work in the future. Methods  3 villages with rural latrine renovation were chosen in three counties to survey the situation of latrine renovation by the way of questionnaire. Results  The average coverage rate of the sanitary latrines was 61.1% in the three villages. 81.5% of the residents were satisfied with the latrine renovation. 75% of the latrine location to water resource was over 30m, and 91.3% of the height of outlet of excrement was over 10cm. 52% of the sanitary condition was better, 12% of excrement in outlet was well-distributed. More than 80% of the residents understood the knowledge about latrine renovation on schistosomiasis control. Conclusion  The design and construction were generally better, but the usage and management were poor. Therefore, It should be paid more attention on the management after the construction of latrine renovation.
