Analysis of schistosomiasis endemic situation in Huaining County of Anhui Province from 2009 to 2012

Abstract:

Objective  To understand the tendency of endemic situation of schistosomiasis in Huaining County, Anhui Province, and provide basis for making out schistosomiasis control strategies. Methods  The epidemiological data of schistosomiasis in Huaining from 2009 to 2012 were collected, and the endemic situation and features were analyzed.  Results  The infection rate of residents in the provincial surveillance site of Huaining decreased significantly in the 4 years, and the positive rate of blood examination in residents of the third class villages and of the forth and fifth class villiages decreased 45.54% and 51.41% respectively in 2012 compared with that in 2009. There were 313 advanced schistosomiasis cases in 2012, and no acute cases were found from 2009 to 2012. The infection rate of cattle in the 4 years was 1.5%, 1.48%, 0.88% and 0.71%, respectively, and there was an obviously decreasing tendency. There was no significant decrease on snail areas from 2009 to 2012, while the areas with infected snails and the mean density of infected snails both decreased obviously, and no infected snails were found in 2012.  Conclusion  It was suggested that promoting the comprehensive control strategy with emphasis on infectious source control was an effective measure to control schistosomiasis
