Abstract:

Objective To understand the endemic situation of schistosomiasis in Yunnan province in 2012, and provide the evidence for making out control measures. Methods  The epidemiological data of schistosomiasis control, including monitoring reports ,annual reports, information about the snails and the illness were collected and analyzed by the descriptive epidemiology method. Results By the end of 2012, there were 1283 cases of schistosomiasis in Yunnan province, among them 816 were advanced cases, and no acute cases were found.About 1679.73 hm² of areas with snails were found.A total of 265440 head of cattle were raised in schistosomiasis transmission regions in 2012.The infection rate of cattle in 2012(0.12%)decreased obviously comparing to that in 2009(0.22%). Conclusions  The endemic situation remains at a low level in Yunnan province. The number of domestic animals is large, which will contaminate the environment with snails. Therefore, it is suggested that promoting the comprehensive control strategy with emphasis on infectious sources control is an effective measure to achieve the mid and long term goals on schistosomiasis control program.
